age-based low-dose lung CT?? but more radiation!!
A recent article in JAMA and referenced in the popular press documented that the majority of lung cancer diagnoses were found in non-smokers, highlighting the limitation of doing low-dose CT scans (LDCT) targeting only smokers; per the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) guidelines. the researchers suggest a more reasoned approach is to do LDCT more broadly as an age-based approach, as is done for breast and colorectal cancer screenings (see lung cancer aged based CT screening JAMA2025 in dropbox, or doi:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2025.46222).
