statin use after breast cancer dec mortality

a recent article found that in patients with early breast cancer, statin use after the diagnosis of breast cancer was associated with lower all-cause and breast cancer-specific mortality particularly among patients with hormone receptor-positive subtypes: see breast cancer statin use helps JAMAonc2026 in dropbox, or doi:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2026.16375 Details : -- 7389 female patients with early invasive breast cancer (BC) in Finland were included in this retrospective population-based cohort study,  based on the Finnish national registries from 1995 and 2013     -- 2313 who were on statins after their BC diagnosis and outcomes were compared to 5076 who were not on statins -- patient characteristics, comparing the groups with breast cancer diagnosis who were on statins after BC diagnosis vs those women having no statins after BC diagnosis:     -- median age: 64 vs 58 yo     -- median follow-up time: 7.4 vs 6.0 years     -- deaths: ...

diabetes risk: BMI less good predictor

Image
Another study just came out finding that BMI is an inferior predictor of the development of type II diabetes (see BMI less good predictor for diabetes DiabReseClinPract2024  in dropbox or https://doi.org/10.1016/j.diabres.2024.111888 )   Details : -- 155,623 Japanese participants who had medical checkups when working at the Panasonic Corporation between 2008 and 2021, having had two consecutive health examinations during that interval, were evaluated for how several different anthropometric indices of adiposity were associated with subsequent development of type II diabetes     -- 115,036 men and 40,587 women were evaluated -- the anthropometric indices assessed:       -- BMI     -- WC, waist circumference     -- wBMI, waist circumference times the BMI (the waist-corrected BMI)     -- ABSI , a-body shape index, the waist circumference divided by the BMI to the two thir...

The next blog later this week will review studies showing significant long-term pathological organ impairment by SARS-CoV-2 virus. For the current article , see  covid risk factors for long covid JAMA2023  in dropbox, or  doi:10.1001/jamainternmed.2023.0750       Details :   -- 41 articles were found documenting predictors of long covid (they used the WHO term: post-covid condition, PCC), in individuals at least 18yo       -- 30 were rated as “high quality” and 11 as ”moderate quality”       -- 860,783 patients were included   -- all studie...
