chocolate and cognitive function, etc

so, this is probably the most important article i've sent out.  i had sent out others on chocolate (especially dark chocolate, which happens to be my favorite) and decreased heart failure and CAD, with postulates that the dietary flavanols in chocolate improve endothelial function, decrease blood pressure, etc.  Now, from franz messerli (it was his htn article i sent out before which suggested that hydrochlorothiazide was a poor choice for an antihypertensive agent) is an article in NEJM finding that on a country-wide basis, per capita chocolate consumption was remarkably highly correlated with the number of nobel laureates (adjusted for population size). (see chocolate and nobel laureates nejm 2012 in dropbox).  turns out that the US has a chocolate consumption of only 5 kg/person/yr -- and, i suspect, with a peak consumption at halloween -- vs switzerland and germany at around 12 kg/person/yr.  if only high fructose corn syrup worked.... we would be way ahead).

i also sent out one on coronary artery disease and chocolate (see cad and chocolate bmj 2011 in dropbox, or http://www.bmj.com/content/343/bmj.d4488/suppl/DC1​), but seem to have lost it from my saved file of blogs. basically meta-anal of epidemiological studies with 114K people, finding 37% decrease in coronary artery disease and 29% decrease in stroke in chocolate-consumers.
